The Grass is Always Greener Where There's a Sprinkler System

If you have school-age children (like I do), this time of year is a lot.

You’re dealing with the forms, the scheduling conflicts, the portals, the permission slips, the volunteer requirements, the supply lists, the picture days, the “optional” practices, the open houses, the snack rules, the directories…

Here’s how people in my world say they’re coping:

> I’m a trainwreck.

> I want to hide under the covers.

> I feel like I’ll never catch up.

It's a drain on your time, energy, brainpower. How about your money?

In my experience, “kid stuff” is one of the most common areas where people underestimate their spending.

You might be thinking: “That’s personal though. What does this have to do with money management in my business?

My friend, as a solopreneur or small business owner, unless you have a system in place, it’s all interconnected.

Here’s how it usually goes:

  1. You plan to spend $500 per season on traveling basketball. You write that check. (But that doesn’t include the gear, hotel rooms, transportation, volunteering “buy-outs”, etc.)
  2. All of those extras end up on your credit card, in addition to the rest of your everyday spending. The total at the end of the month is (gulp) a lot higher than you expected.
  3. You transfer extra money from your business account to your personal account to pay the bill.
  4. Your next big closing gets pushed out, there’s a snafu with your monthly billing process, your largest account is taking forever to pay…and you start sweating the dwindling balance in your business account.

Is your blood pressure up just reading this hypothetical? Sorry about that. Take some cleansing breaths and let’s talk about solutions.

This scenario is just begging for letter A in my CLEAR system: Allocation.

It’s a simple way to keep the flow of money going to the right places.

Think of it like watering your lawn using sprinklers on a timer, rather than dumping a bucket on the dry spots when you notice they’re really brown.

One real benefit people notice with Allocation in place is feeling more confident because they’re proactive with money, rather than reactive. Who doesn’t like to be calling the shots?!

If you want to be proactive with your money, I can help you with that.

I’ll even install those metaphorical sprinklers and set up your watering schedule for you! All the neighbors will be green with envy 😉

Let’s shift money management from a source of stress to a source of calm, clarity and confidence.
