Buying more coffee might just be the best money move for your business
I feel bad for coffee shops.
They get a bad rap from personal finance gurus and I understand why.
Buying a $7 beverage is an easy way to spend a lot of money without even realizing it. And if you’re just in it for the caffeine, there are certainly less costly options.
But pretty much every solopreneur I talk to tells me they “should probably not spend so much money at Starbucks”.
And I have to push back on this.
As with most financial issues, it might not be the best idea to follow personal advice in your business.
What if coffee meetings are where you close 90% of your sales?
Or if the neighborhood cafe is where you run into your best referral partners?
Or that Friday morning s’mores latte is the reward that keeps you going all week?
Does it really make sense to try to spend less at the coffee shop? Maybe you should actually commit to spending more.
Here’s what I want you to get:
In business, the purpose of a budget is not to slash spending as close to zero as possible.
It’s to spend the right amounts on the right things to keep your business strong.
So if buying fancy coffee keeps your sales pipeline flowing or your inquiry inbox full, keep it up!
